Over 35 years ago our family started raising chickens on this property. Known as Shade Tree it was a popular spot for parking kids from Dunedin High School. It wasn't an easy start. Dunedin was a lot different then, wild dogs roamed the orange groves and undeveloped land. This is the time when legends like Snow White and Big Red were formed.
Under the guard of Big Red the flock prospered. Red's offspring eventually saw the flock number well over 100 head. The flock plus ducks and other assorted farm animals was more than the two acres, and the growing neighborhood could handle and that led to what's come to be known as The Great Shade Tree Chicken Masacre. Great Grandmas and Grandpas, aunts and uncles, friends and neighbors, and Mid all lent a hand that day. The next morning the Shade Tree Flock numbered 25 hens and two Roos.
The Flock went on for many years numbering in the low double digits. Eventually kids went to college and one day in the mid 90's with out much of any note there came a morning when no rooster crowed and no hen scratched the ground. Kids returned home and four acres ajoining shade tree were purchased. First things first a flock was introduced on those four acres and Chicken Creek Ranch was born.
Late 2012 a flock was started on the original Shade Tree property; The Tippy Oak Flock joined the Koi Pond Flock.
After visiting Enterprise Village, two grandkids wanted to start selling the eggs. That desire has led to this, BringMeEggs.com
