The Mulberries are peaking. We have two mulberry bushes, more like trees, producing. They are an amazing special treat that we look forward to every year. Flavor and abundance are down this year from average, but Koi Pond tree is amazing as always and the Tippy Oak tree is having maybe it's second best season ever numbers wise. Yes, the ladies love them too.
We brought Jenni, Allex, Cookie, and Astroid to Curtis Fundamental for show and tell. The children got to pet the girls and learned all about raising hens for eggs.
Awesome Thank You letters from one of the classes.
New nesting boxes were built and installed for the Tippy Oak Flock. Next we'll be constructing a larger coup to protect the ladies from those mean ole raccoons.
The Reinforcements are here and they're super cute.
There's a few different breeds including 'Astro'lorp and Delawares. Of course the girls have named them all.
Cookie, Astroid, Snow, Flake (I wanted Frost), and Reeses. *update* Girls said Frost was fine.
Snow and Frost are Delaware pullets, about 3 months.
Updated photos!
The ladies are really starting to take their free range status to heart. No big worries, but they've started to head to the neighbor's yard for about a 30 minute scratch around. They really like checking out the Mulberry bush and the giant leaf pile.
We're expecting our first egg soon. A few of them have started squatting. They take up a low posture when we approach them. It's a sign they're ready to be productive.
Yeah!
